WEST OF DEVERS

The purpose of this project was to increase the transmission load-carrying capacity of the Devers Substation by installing a larger conductor line as well as to improve the reliability and serviceability of the lines with the new layout and re-structuring.  In addition, the nearly 60 miles of transmission lines meet new NECA safety requirements.

The work involved the installation of concrete-filled drilled shaft foundations for monopole and lattice tower structures that carry the new high voltage power lines. The 1,645 foundations required over 60,000 yards of concrete. Because much of the work was performed under and around hot, energized power lines, the project required a high level of safety protocols and thorough task analysis. The terrain ranged from desert to mountainous areas with limited working areas. The protection of the public was a high-priority as a majority of work was completed adjacent to active hiking trails.
