TESLA BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (BESS) SUBSTATION INSTALLATION
A new and important energy storage solution, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is a technology developed for storing electric charge by using specially developed batteries. That energy can then be utilized at a later time.
Aldridge installed a Battery Energy Storage System for a local utility company. This initial installation included 20 Tesla Powerpacks (each with 16 individual battery pods), four inverters, and ancillary equipment including a controller, transformer, and switchboard. Work included installation of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and low-voltage (LV) cable between the inverters, switchgear, and transformer. Also included was the installation of the wiring harnesses for the inverters and Powerpacks and the supply and installation of communications cables between the inverters and Powerpack controller.
This project supports the development of best practices for the safe implementation and deployment of BESS at the Utility’s other substation locations.
